Eternal Companions Podcast: Episode 5
January 21, 2024
Overview:
On this episode, Scott and Sarah get vulnerable by sharing the story of their struggle to conceive, a missed miscarriage, and an anxiety-filled pregnancy.
Key Points:
Deciding when to have kids
Sarah did not feel inclined to be a mother due to her upbringing, which was career-focused.
Scott had several experiences in his formative years including religious instruction, lifeguarding, and math tutoring that made him want kids.
Scott and Sarah felt that they received a prompting from God to try to conceive.
Trying to conceive
After inconsistencies in Sarah's cycle, the couple decided to start ovulation testing and join the "TTC" community (trying to conceive community).
After 13 months, the couple still had not gotten pregnant.
Experiencing a missed miscarriage and medical abortion
Scott and Sarah got pregnant finally, which unfortunately ended in a missed miscarriage. Sarah was unable to pass the pregnancy on her own, so she had to receive a medical abortion procedure called a D&C to remove the deceased fetus.
Successfully conceiving
Scott and Sarah finally conceived a healthy baby girl and experienced conflicting emotions as they felt sincere joy mixed with significant anxiety that they would lose their baby.
Advice for dealing with loss or supporting a loved one through a loss
Remember the dads- Dads experience loss too when a miscarriage happens.
Give them space- Don't expect your loved one to attend every child-focused gathering or engage in discussion related to pregnancy and childbirth
Think about all you've learned through the hard experiences.
